Hi, I’m Paulette

Hello! I’m Paulette. Welcome to Old Home Charming.

I have been romanticizing life through beautiful old homes and gardens for as long as I can remember. If you have landed on this page you’ll probably agree, life is simply more magical when life revolves around old homes, oozing with gorgeous character and the odd wonky door! My hope is that you feel inspired by this blog, where I will share my own old home journey, one messy room at a time.

What you’ll learn from this page? Decor tips, renovation and preservation ideas, DYI, history, architecture, gardens and the odd journey behind the doors of other old homes, because hey, a girl must feed her old home fix!

We’re a community of passionate old home lovers!
And I am so glad you’re here.

A little more about me:

What is your biggest old home project you have tackled? Primrose Hill Manor, an 1880 Victorian Italianate in Janetville, Ontario (about 90 minutes outside of Toronto). Preserving this beauty was one of the biggest adventures of my life. And the icing on the cake? Receiving the Osprey Heritage Award for Preservation from the City of Kawartha Lakes.

What old home are you working on now?

A late 1800’s Ontario Cottage in downtown Port Hope, ON. In time I plan on sharing my love for this home with all of you by putting her up on Airbnb on occasion. Afterall, my favourite Christmas movie is “The Holiday” and I needed the perfect house as my inspiration. Rosehill Cottage anyone?

Did you study design?

No! I’m a self-taught Pinterest hacker. I am very clear about what I want and bring in experts when needed. I know my limits!

What is your decor style?

It can change based on the house. As for my current house, if someone from Provence and the Cotswolds married each other…well, that is my decor style.

What do you do for a living?

I work for a real estate brokerage, and I am currently taking my real estate courses to get licensed. Of course, I want to help others buy and sell their old homes! It’s the perfect fit. And, secretly I want to peek behind as many old homes as I can.

What is your favourite movie?

Sorry, I can’t choose one! Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Jane Eyre and anything Nancy Meyers has produced! I’m a romantic at my very core. Can you tell?
